Man from the Shimmies

I don’t know how many people remember the Bill Clinton video that was aired at the Democratic National Convention where he accepted his nomination. Should I ever vie for the White House, I’ll probably use “The Man from the Shimmies /b>.” Oh, sure, it isn’t nearly as poetic as the “Man from HOPE,” but the picture is pretty powerful.

This is where I lived for three years after starting my Ph.D. program at UNL.

James's old house in the Shimmies

The picture has that “Grapes of Wrath” feel to it. The funny thing is that there was a term that was often used to describe the adjunct faculty that would travel from one teaching appointment to the next. We called it “Migrant Intellectual Labor.” Seems appropriate.
